The idea is simple: In completely darkened rooms blind people lead small groups of guests through an exhibition in which everyday situations are experienced altogether differently, without eyesight. In the dark, the daily routine becomes a new experience. A reversion of roles is created: sighted people are confronted with different ways of perception; blind people provide them with security and a sense of orientation transmitting a world without pictures.
In 2014 the successful concept was transferred to the experience of life through the perception of deaf people. How can you communicate without voice? What can be communicated by body language, facial expression or hand signals? DIALOG IM STILLEN® at the Speicherstadt Hamburg conveys and transmits exactly this experience. Visitors wear sound protectors and deaf guides lead small groups through soundproofed bright exhibition rooms and teach them to speak with their hands and to listen with their eyes. At the end of this very special experience, visitors to this exhibibition gain an insight into a fascinating culture and find new ways of understanding.
